Marble Care Frequently Ask Questions

What is Stone Restoration?

Restoration of stone is the restoring of worn and soiled stone to the state in which it was first installed or in some cases much better. It may also entail the altering of the stones surface to create a desired finish for the client. For example you may want a polished surface to be honed or vice versa. Restoration is a process what can only be done by a professional stone restoration company. We don't clean air ducts or carpet, just natural stone. A maintenance or janitorial company will not have the expertise or proper tools to properly restore your stone.

What is involved?

Restoration of natural stone involves the removal of scratches and normal wear and tear from the surface of the stone by means of mechanical abrasion. This is what they refer to as diamond grinding or as I like to say we are giving your floor a facial. Natural stone reflects light and does not need a topical coating and/or wax to achieve the proper finish. In fact wax normally creates a whole new set of problems. It simply needs a series of diamond pads used in the correct order by a master technician. This is followed by a compound polish which needs someone with many years of experience to create the perfect shine. Restoration of a honed or matte finish involves using the proper sequence of diamond pads to mechanically create the finish without the use of chemicals. AAAMarbleCare technician will also take care to protect the surroundings from the wet splatter that is created from the wet sanding.

How is the job charged?

Natural stone restoration jobs are normally charged by the job. Square footage pricing is difficult. Each type of stone will involve its own unique challenges as well as the consumer's desired result for their surface. Many different things need to be taken into account, such as how much furniture needs to be moved, any natural wood baseboards or inlays. Regardless of the cost it is always cheaper and easier than replacement and most time you have a floor that looks better than when it was first installed.

How long does it take?

Each type of stone and the desired finish as well as the size of the job will determine the length of time needed to complete the job. In general any job over 600-800 sq ft of most stone will require more than one day to complete. More can be done in a day but not with the proper preparation and protection of other surfaces.

What can I expect?

Your stone will be looking like new again and we will give you proper cleaning instructions for long term care. We also offer a recurring maintenance program to help keep your floors looking like new.

What is required to schedule service and how soon can I expect service?

AAAMarbleCare will normally ask for a 20% deposit to place you on our schedule. Without a commitment clients may not show up for their appointments. Lost days of work cost our company too much money. Generally we can get you on our schedule within a week or two. However, the greater the need the sooner the technicians can be scheduled.
